1966 Teisco Spectrum 2 Red Finish
Here is a gorgeous original 1966 Teisco Spectrum 2 electric guitar in original metallic red finish. These instruments were built during a time when the majority of Japanese guitars were thought of as just cheap poorly made instruments. To prove that not all Japanese guitars were made with such poor standards, Teisco introduced these very rare and beautifully made high quality guitars to represent the finest Japanese craftsmanship.
These Spectrum guitars had a slim, highly contoured body with a pointed upper horn pointing up and a hooked lower horn. The body features a German carve relief along the edge of the guitar. The headstock features the new hooked design, while inlays were triangular “picks,” sort of like Kays of the time and the fingerboard is made from what appears to be brazilian rosewood which had unique position markers with extra wide, easy to finger frets. The pickguard is very attractive on this guitar with a single piece of plastic featuring a beautiful floral design in the bottom left side and covers the entire area under the strings, both volume and tone controls and input jack.
The guitars magnificent lustrous finish is the result of individual coats of hand rubbed lacquer, and not just two or three coats but seven coats of lacquer individually hand rubbed. The trim which follows the contour of the body is inlaid by hand. It is said that the Spectrum model guitars were designed as a labor of love. It required infinite patience and craftsmanship to sculpture solid mahogany wood into the graceful and intricate design.
Guitar will be packed very carefully in a soft case and professionally packaged to arrive safely to you.
